Is it only us, or do you also get the feeling there are more tennis-related activities in our area than there used to be? Seems something is going on somewhere nearby every weekend. That’s great! Today’s issue will look at two of such events: one past, one ongoing.

Right below the Grand Slams on the professional tennis tour is the “Sony Ericsson” tournament in Key Biscayne/FL. It is one of the rare combined women’s and men’s events, and most of the top players are usually in it. In fact, some people call it the “Fifth Slam” in tennis.
Now, if someone drove you there, got good tickets for you, selected a fine hotel, and did all the other planning, too - would you care to join such a trip?

Our two counties have an array of tennis facilities. From public courts with wide-open gates, to exclusive country clubs with impressive amenities, almost everything is represented. The Greater Volusia Tennis League currently lists 31 facilities on its website. Some of the facilities in our area have very active players and operators, while others just offer the open courts.
This is the 50th of the “Tennis Network News Blast.” To celebrate that occasion, we will start a new series: “Visiting Your Club.” In a loose collection of articles, we will introduce some of the active facilities and clubs to you.

Ever wanted to watch professional tennis from really up front and close? The Palm Coast Tennis Center will offer this treat in a couple of weeks. It will host an official USTA Pro-Circuit Men’s Futures tournament with prize money and everything. And even YOU can dip your hands in the prize jar. Just need to win a couple of matches.
